Quickly Aligning 3D Scans in Blender for CAD Workflows When you receive a 3D scan from a client, it’s often not aligned to any sensible coordinate system. Before it ever hits CAD, I like to do a quick cleanup pass in Blender. In this example I: • Import an STL of a storage box lid (from a 3D scanner) • Set the origin to center of mass so rotations behave predictably • Iteratively rotate around X, Y, and Z while swapping views to square the part to the global axes • Enable X-Ray and use symmetry:
